Are you fine with a forum change?

So an english term with game in it?
For creating a wider audience it may be easier for new users to discover the product.
Id still use it no matter what its called ;-)

Off to think of some ideas....

<Me quietly.. Game.. dev.. device.. platform>

Yes it should be easy to find it via Google I agree.

But what about Flutter? It's not that hard to find, so It's all about branding and we need to have a good website name. A place to gather everything.

"Papillon programming language" would work in Google no problem.

The name does not have to be programming related. Think Flutter.
I also love the name Game maker, but, as it's taken and because there's NO replacement that is as good.
Like Game Creator.. it's taken (it's the slogan for AMOS basic) and also, if we try to go that path then the name becomes too general.
There's hundred of these around I mean. What we don't want is to be mixed up with those!

It's a unique powerful game (and don't forget App now) cross-platform programming language. It could be named to whatever but it has to stand out.

the name shouldnt be fancy or cryptic
So come up with some ideas. Later we can judge things according to our perception and taste.
Sometimes cryptic names can appear pretty nice like Adidas or Haribo and straight forward names can tend to appear awkward later.
For now I can relate to raion (simple word, strong), Papillon or Butterfly (easy, lightweight, transformation wonder, but a little hard to pronounce).
tere (fast) , kanta (easy ) and gemu (game) also sound ok to my ears.

Edit: Slick is also pretty good. Keep on going! :)

I wrote a little python script for using google translator:
Python:
# Just "pip install googletrans" for the needed module!

import googletrans
from googletrans import Translator
translator = Translator()

# Add your preferred words here.
words = ["easy","fast","butterfly","slick"]

# Add your preferred languages here.
languages = ["english",
"german","spanish","french","maori"]

for word in words:
    translations=[]
    for language in languages:
        translations.append(translator.translate(word,dest=language))

    line=[]
    for trans in translations:
        line.append(trans.text)
    print(line)

# Uncomment next line to view all available languages!
# print(googletrans.LANGUAGES)

So come up with some ideas.
Will do....

I liked the suggestion of spel.
So the puns with that are spelMaker, spelBound, spelBook

I don't know what to call the style of CX. Both Unity and Game maker are studios. For me it's quite important that CX isn't a studio....
GamePad (sounds like handheld), DevPad, Solo, gameSolo, SiloX or gameSilo (but that sounds more like a games compendium)

I already like the X in Cerberus X. It shows cross platform. I think that's quite important in a new name too or something similar

I'll sleep on it

TRICXS - Is pretty cool, and you wouldn't have to rebrand the .cxs extension! Furthermore the tricxs.com url is available! My 2 cents (euro)...

Tinkering with my script I have some suggerstions:
Ludum X - Could be helpful regarding ludum dare game jams.
Machina X - reminds me of "Deus ex machina" as something solving a problem in a magical way.
paratus X (meaning ready)
Apparatus X
makutu X (magic in maori)

Got few more ideas this morning :

Second Gear

Bricius (Celtic meaning "colorful, speckled, also generous and solid)
And I like how it reminds you of Bricks, Lego, easy building.

EDIT
As people seem to want the word "game" in the title, I have a few more suggestions :

Gamesome - meaning playful and merry

Ligament - note it has game in it haha. "a short band of tough, flexible fibrous connective tissue which connects two bones or cartilages or holds together a joint", weird but catchy in a way. And it explains a transpiler.

Great suggestions guys. My favorites from these so far are

SpelMaker, Bricius.

Slick is great but maybe to generic? Tricxs i love too, but there is a product called like that. All would woek with the X if people insist on it.

Flutter i liked too but Google took that already.

@Rich what is a studio for you and why is it important that CX is not one?

Just my two cents: I prefer something with an easy spelling, where you can pronounce the name and whoever knows the written English language will be able to spell it.

Slick, SlickBasic (why not?)... But not so much Tricxs

Ive tried GameMaker and Unity. I feel that unless you are running it on a huge resolutions or multiple screens, they seem very unusable.
Theres a lot of manipulation of projects and files, with multiple tabs, windows and gadgets (for importing libraries, assets, setting values etc)
VC studio also suffers from the same thing IMO

These are my first impressions and the reasons why I abandon them quickly (even though i do try them again and again)

I prefer everything in code, in one window (or tabbed). Give me VIM or NotePad++ any day ;-)
I dont have expensive laptops and know that CX can be run almost anywhere

but calling something LITE sounds like youre not getting the full thing

I like "Slick BASIC" or maybe "Slik BASIC".

or just Slik (meaning "such")

EDIT
One more suggestion :

Gema

A name that derives from the Latin “gemma”, meaning “gem, precious stone, beauty.
It's also a word jumble on the word Game. It has an elegant ring to it.

I know I'm still new to the Cerberus family, but for my 2 penny-worth, I would avoid using BASIC in the name. It seems to put some people off thinking that it's not a serious language.
I do like Gema, though (almost my daughter's name).

Agreed. And furthermore BASIC enthusiasts will complain this is not a real Basic language.
Btw I guess all of us are pretty happie if we find a suitable name, whoever comes up with it. ;)

Gema could be nice, but it is also something unpleasant in Germany. Its a Society for musical performing and mechanical reproduction rights. An Institution that sues you, if you sing copyright protected songs in public.

Slick is great but maybe to generic?
I would also be interested in the opinion of an english native speaker about the first impression/asociations it evokes. @Rich ?
I could imagine Slick X being percepted as "Smart crossplattform tool", wich would be pretty nice.
The only problem is that there is a database query library called Slick.

Maybe its time for another round of brainstorming. Here some ideas of mixed qualities:

Preferred foreign language stuff:
kaha (maori for mighty)
raiona (maori for lion)
watea (maori), kulula (zulu) - for easy
tere (maori), vave (samoanic) - for quick
malosi(samoanic), pakari (maori) for strong
genero (latin for create)

Name generator tools are timewasters::mad:
GameViper
Gamely
Gamefluent
Gamenetic
Gamery
Gameboard
Gameengineer
Gamegen(erator)
Gameauthor
Gameinventor

Animals I like somehow:
Antelope
Lion
Jungle
Baboon
Catfish
Tigercat
Dolphin
Dragon
Eagle
Hawk
Kudu
Impala
Chameleon
Octopus
Numbat
Platypus
Ocelot
Whale
Raven

Some more suggestions?

Slick has good and bad connatations.
Something thats slick is good, smooth and fast. Being slick at something means you are really good at it.
but..... Oil slicks are bad

But generally Slick is a good word

I like the idea of SlickBasic, it has a nice ring about it, but also agree its not tradionally Basic (but nor was BlitzBasic)

Slick
SlickDev
DevSlick
gameSlick
SlickX <- I dont like the k and X together
SliX <- pronouced slicks
joySlick / joySliX <- sounds like joysticks but also maybe sounds rude ;-)

Personally I don't see anything wrong with the current name (you also lose the existing web presence and have to explain the change) but...

It's a cross-platform game programming language rather than a studio, engine, framework or library.
I don't like 'Slick' at all as it has negative connotations ("he's too slick", "it's too slick")
Generator or maker makes it sound like an automated thing
Papillon is a bit wishy-washy imho
I wouldn't use 'Basic' in the name either

I was thinking of the word 'arrow' which can be directed at any target - something like Game Arrow but that sounds like 'gay marrow' which is less than ideal.
