Drawing parts of images

Hi, loving playing around with Cerberus X, it reminds me of developing games as a kid again :)

So I'm trying to do something isometric and for the most part this hasn't been too difficult to get going in Cerberus X, whether that's importing maps from Tiled in some fashion, getting tile images in and blitting to the screen.

But because it's isometric I've run into the age-old problem of needing a painter's algorithm. Now, with my sprites and the specifics I have in mind, I can solve this if I could draw parts of an image that aren't rect-bounded.

I.e. I have a hexagon tile that's a simple cube, with top, left and right sides, and essentially I can solve my problem if I can draw the front two sides. But I don't really want to sit and draw versions of all my tiles without a top on them.

Is there a way to draw part of an image? Like either providing some kind of bitmask (draw the pixels from image x where matching pixel in image y is black) or should I be looking at creating a new image at load time (like, when I load each tile, make a second version of the tile by reading the relevant pixels from the first one)

Sorry to ramble, but I think I can solve most of my problems if I can get this going and I'm not sure of the best way to tackle it in Cerberus. Thanks :)

So far I've been using mojo1 rather than mojo2, and I did see the Draw functions, but essentially I was looking for a DrawImagePoly function since I didn't really want to try to reconstruct my tiles with draw calls.

I didn't go into mojo2 much because all the examples I could find of doing things seemed to use mojo1 and if I'm honest, mojo2 looked scary :p

Thanks for the links to the docs, I had been meaning to find out a bit more about the blend modes, something really missing from the mojo1 docs which all tell you 'you can set additive or alpha' without being clear what these meant - I think what I'm trying to do might be achievable with some of the mojo2 blend modes, but if not, that other link looks *really* interesting, thanks for sharing! :)

It's not scary, here I converted one of the Mojo1 examples into Mojo2 for you to get started more easily.

Painters algorithm is generally the way to go for isometric. Of course the images you use will have transparent parts. Just sort them (bottom to top, back to front, maybe right to left or left to right depending on your angle), using alpha blend which is the default.
