• Hello everyone,

We're happy to announce that our forum is back online! We needed to take some time off to discuss and decide on how to handle sensitive topics in our community.

The team has posted an in-depth comment regarding a recent incident and our stance on politics and sexuality in our forum. We also added a dedicated paragraph about this in the forum guidelines. This is part of our commitment to maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment for all our users. Your understanding and continued support in building a creative and respectful community are highly appreciated.

    Thank you, the CX Dev-Team

We are trying to find a more suitable name for Cerberus X.
The main reasons for the rebranding are:
1. Cerberus X is hard to pronounce (ssssserbrseggs) and to spell correctly.
2. Cerberus has, as the multi-headed dog that guards the gates of the Underworld to prevent the dead from leaving, kind of an evil touch to it.

So let's create a name that fits the tool, sounds nice, is easy to write and pronounce and makes us think positive thoughts while hearing and using it. ;)

In the other thread we gathered some suggestions (191), so I put them in a list for you to choose 5-10 of them. It would be nice, if you arrange your most preferred ones on top. You can also comment why it is a suitable name or add variations or new suggestions.
If you know some objections to certain names, that could prevent us from using it for Cerberus X, tell us about them.
The goal is to have only a few (5-20) suggestions left at the end of next week (2019-09-22), that are really worth considering as a replacement for "Cerberus X".

Rexx is an existing programming language so probably not a good choice
Some of these ideas (eg Yxa ) must be harder to pronounce than Cerberus for English speakers
Solidx is in use

I mean it's a company name so you might have them coming after you :D

The most common word used around the world, easy to pronounce and spell..... OK.
So OK B.A.S.I.C

Aurora is already used for a C compiler, i mentioned it in the other topic.

Yabl -> Yet another basic language ;) its a joke...or not...

@Phil7 I guess people didn't read the first post.

Here are my votes

1) GameCreator
2) SpelMaker
3) Slik
4) NEW Performa / PerformaX (PerformX + Forma)
5) NEW Appillon (variation of Pappillon)
6) NEW Loom (You weave and create things in it)
7) NEW IndyX (the no1 language for Indy coders!)
8) NEW LightningX (fast code and I love the retro sound of it)
9) NEW SNAPP (Apps & games.. quick and easy!)
10) Unicorn

Is there a current problem with the name? Cerberus is fine, although I keep typing Cerebus (which is an aardvark comic book series).
Cerberx
Monkex
Blitx

Any name change will require a marketing effort to get the digital "footprint" changed: SyntaxBomb uses Cerberus, etc.

It's important that we rebrand NOW instead of waiting. We have a great chance now. With or without a major update we can change the name and the icon to be something more in line what's needed. With needed I mean it should be easy to be found and to refer to, and feel okay. CerberusX will never feel like a programming language for me. It just feels like a name in beta stage that is about to die, just like Monkey etc. Let us show that it is NOT. Let's pick a stable and proper name.

I was fine with Monkey, but even I would draw the line at Baboon!

The one that jumped out at me was Slick. Googling, there's a Scala library of that name, don't know if it matters.

SlickBasic is possible, but the language is as much like Java as it is like Basic. On the other hand... it's in the genre of languages that would appeal to Basic users - so maybe that would be fine. Object of the name is to stand out, get eyeballs that are possibly interested in the thing, not sound terrible, right? Maybe SlickBasic is correct. And it's pronounceable and googleable - also very important.

Swift, Haxe, Python, Ruby, SmallTalk, Cobol. I guess two syllables or less (Cerberus = 3!!!!), and it needs to work in multiple spoken languages. Honestly, naming things is the hardest damn thing to do, especially by committee. I'm open to any name, let me know when to update the repositories to reflect the name change. Although, my vote is just keeping Cerberus, drop the X. Less work. Think of all the file name extensions! Call it Cerberus Lang, if need be.

Cerberusscript
Cerby
Cerby-X
Cerbert
Cerbert Basic
ExMonkey-X-But-Better
BlitzAlumnus
MCBx (Monkey-Cerberus-Blitz)
MCB Basic
MC Basic
MikeHartScript
Sibly Script
Sibly Basic
BlitzCx
BlitzMax Ng-CX2 (lol sorry!)

It's important that we rebrand NOW instead of waiting. We have a great chance now.

I don't NEED to change it NOW or at all. There is a huge investment company called Cerberus and a PC case brand called Cerberus X. Both didn't knock on my door so far.

I figured.. bu sincerely I still hope you're for going commercial because people's available time and skills are not as plentiful as it needs to drive a project like this, It needs a distinct group of people. As long as the price is right I think most of us will support that way.

I decided to step back from the idea about making Money with CX. So don't worry about this, ok.

@semar - Nice, how about a little twist with:

affecx

affecx.com is available

Oh wait, are we done with the name game already, what is the decision Mike?

Is it 22nd of September already? Damn did i sleep long. As going commercial is of the radar for CX, unless i get forced to change the name, i think i keep the current one.

Thanks to the few for your ideas. There was one that caught my eye for a personal project, if that ever comes to life.
Back to hide under the rocks. There is so much to change for CX, need to work on that before some targets become nonfunctional.
