Tilemap engine

Ive created a playable demo for windows...
There is a section where framerate drops on my laptop. This is because there are 5 lights on screen. Anything above 3 lights and it starts to flag.
it will just mean carefully creating levels and not having too many light sources on one screen. The less lights though, the spookier ;-)

Use the arrow keys and z to fire

player and alien gfx borrowed from Alien Breed.

So close to finishing.. obvs theres a few bugs left to find but I thought id give you a demo.
Press 'e' to enter editor mode.. escape to get back to the game

Quick instructions
- Move mouse to the top edge to bring the the tile menu up
Select the tile you want to draw with.
- Move mouse to the right edge to bring up the layer menu
Layer menu allows you to resize each layer and to set the floor
- Move mouse to the left edge to bring up the lighting menu
Ligting menu allows you enable/disable lighting, choose ambient lighting for the floor and walls. The foor is any layer below the layer that is set as floor in the layer menu. Walls are anything above it. You can also add lighting (INSERT) and remove lighting (DELETE), chnage color, position and range.
- Move mouse to the bottom to bring up the level menu
Level menu allows you to save, set sky colours, parrallex and drawing area

SPACE - cycle through each layer so that you can draw
G - Grid on and off
D - drawing mode - solid, layer and onion

If you are in a menu, right click will return you to the drawing area.. right clickin the drawing area to clear a tile

Ill be building a trello board to track issues

So are you making a full game out of this?
mmm maybe. not really thought about it. I built the editor for my shoot em but it has so much potential for a lot of games.
I do like Alien Breed so making a tribute would be nice
